Shout out to my wife proud of you for being you! Thanks for birthday pie!
On Sunday I’m going to see Between the Buried and Me with a couple of friends. Apparently they’re going to play Colors as part of a 10 year anniversary or something.
And it shames me to say I don’t remember ever listening to this album. I’m a fan of Alaska, and know I’ve listened to one of the Paralax albums, but I don’t think I’ve listened to this aural assault, and I’ve gotta say I’m worse for it.
I was going to mention how un-metal this album was, since at least half of the album strays into other orchestrations quite fluidly. The first half of the album is more jazz and instrumental noodling than it is metal, but by the end of the album they turn the gain up to 11 and chug a riff out with the best of them.
It’s a hard thing to make a song over 10 minutes without it feeling trite and like it’s trying to hard, and while this album didn’t have my full attention, I never felt like any part of it was dragging, despite 3 of it’s tracks being offensively long.
These guys are very much their own thing, but I’m excited to be a part of that thing on Sunday.
